In 1967 Chicago-based Publications International, Ltd. went to press with its first title, Best Buys & Discount Prices, which was published under the now-famous and highly regarded CONSUMER GUIDE imprint. The company's mission, as stated by C.E.O. Louis Weber, was–and is–to "pool combined imaginative resources to create quality information products, both in the written word and other media, and to provide knowledge and enjoyment to the consumer at a reasonable price."

In just a few years Publications International, Ltd. came to be relied upon by thousands of smart shoppers for the accurate, money-saving buying information found in CONSUMER GUIDE magazines. Publications International, Ltd. subsequently expanded into the hardcover book format, permitting editors to explore a wide variety of subjects in considerable detail. By 1982 the publications list exceeded 100 titles–each volume featuring a wealth of useful, important information presented in bright, accessible language. Lavish use of striking photography and illustration became a Publications International, Ltd. hallmark.

Publications International, Ltd. continues to rise in prominence and regard within the industry. The company now publishes more than 500 titles a year in categories including children's, cooking, sports, how-to and crafts, entertainment, medical and health, automotive (new-car and vintage), consumer information, and a variety of stationery products.

Work created by Publications International, Ltd. is distributed nationwide and abroad via bookstore chains, book departments of major retailers, magazine stands, and mail-order catalogs.

The Holocaust Chronicle: A History in Words and Pictures is the company's first not-for-profit endeavor.
